The primary story teller, Huw Morgan, narrates us back through his childhood experiences as the youngest son of a proud coal mining family in Wales in the late 1890's. A second storyline follows the relationship between Huw's sister and Reverand Gruffydd, and presents scenes that Huw could not have witnessed.
